Organizing Documents

Last updated: September 4th, 2022

I tried to look for some info on the facebook group to give me some sort of idea of what the consulate could expect in the way of how the documents are to be organized and delivered to them on that faithful appointment day.  The closest I saw was someone who had their documents fanned out on a bed with a caption that reads something to the effect of "all ready to go!".  When I started, I was using one of those document accordions that fans open.  This worked okay, but you have to take the documents out to even see what they are.  Since I had read how important envelopes and staples can be, that seemed like a bad idea.

If you don't know what that means, at least the records from Italy and the records from USCIS must be accompanied by the envelopes they came in.  If you hadn't read it earlier, I went a little nuts and gave the consulate every envelope I could fit in.

I eventually wound up getting a 3 ring binder and a bunch of sheet protectors and then further organized my records so that each person has a section.  I did have to get some wider, side-feeding sheet protectors from Office Max for the apostille documents that came from Nevada.  When they staples the apostille to the document, they do it offset from the page about 1/2" so instead of it being 8 1/2" x 11", it's 9" x 11".

This video is also on the wiki, but it goes into more detail on how I put that binder together.
