My Sister's Process :: Piggybacking on my consulate file
I recently told my sister about how I finished the process and got my Italian passport and asked her again if she was interested in the process. I thought I had asked her before and didn't pick up on whether she was interested, but now she is. I feel very excited as it feels like I get to do the process again - even though I don't.
I am not currently sure what the piggybacking process is, but I do know that she lives in Arizona, so luckily for her, she should be able to take the File number I received with my recognition from the Los Angeles consulate and only have to put in her application and a few other documents and forms. I haven't found too much about this process other than it exists, so we'll get to find out how this process works, at least with the LA consulate, first hand.
I'll be updating this page as we find out more.
My understanding of her process
1. She will need to make an appointment
2. She'll need a copy of her birth certificate in long form / dual citizenship
3. She'll need to get that birth certificate apostiled
4. She'll need to get the birth certificate translated into Italian
5. She'll need to fill out the consulate application form(s)
6. She'll need to pay the $300+ fee (whatever the 300 euro fee translates to in USD)
7. She'll need to wait
8. She'll need to register in FAST.IT for AIRE
9. She'll need to get a passport appointment (possibly in Phoenix, depends on the time of the year)
10. She'll need to get the passport application together
1. She should start learning Italian
